Working With Layers

This is an exercise we've been told to do by our Computer Graphics 2 tutor, Madam Lydia, in order to get a little familiar with Photoshop. So, I'll start by opening my Photoshop program as shown above.

Next, I opened a new file and named it randomly, and setting the size to A4 size, and the background white.

I then selected a random image from my computer and placed it in. Note that the name of the layer has been pre-named as i have selected a named image from my computer.

Fourthly, I created a new layer and named it as name.

After that, I used the Text Tool and typed in the words, bob marley at the top left of the picture. I used a downloaded font from the internet, Angelic war, and set the size of the font to 100 pt. The colour of the font is green.

Next, i wanted to have a border around the picture, to make it more elegant looking. So, i rasterized the image first (sorry Mdm Lydia, I didn't rasterize it earlier), then i clicked the background layer and used the Paint Bucket Tool to fill the background with my preferred colour, which is black.

Then I used the Rectangular Marquee Tool on the image as shown above.

After that, I right-clicked on the image and click on the Select Inverse option.

Later, I pressed the delete button to remove the marquee from the image.

And voila! The finished product, presented in JPEG format. I am glad that I really have learnt something regarding layers, and I hope that Mdm Lydia will find it sufficient. And if there are certain mistakes that can be noticed and not changed, Mdm Lydia please do inform me so that I can correct it. Cheers.

Introduction

Hey there! Dominic Bay's the name, but you guys can call me Dom for short. I'm 18 years old this year and I am currently studying in Multimedia University (MMU for short), which is located in Cyberjaya, Selangor, Malaysia. I'm an intro-extrovert (Google it), and a movie freak. I enjoy listening to the soundtracks/scores of movies as well. Well, enough about me, let's talk about this blog.

So, this is a blog specially created for documenting my work progress in creating an e-wallpaper using Adobe Photoshop as an assignment given to me by my Computer Graphics lecturers in MMU, and the theme of the wallpaper is 'Festivals'. So the festival which I have in mind is Christmas, as it is around the corner and it's a very joyous occasion where families and friends gather once a year to spend time together.

So, I'll be in a major brain storming mode, searching for pictures related to Christmas, which includes 'Googling' them.

Till then, ta ta for now =)

PS: Here's the official website of my university, and below that is the website of the faculty I'm studying in.
